Running for Charity

This Sunday, the Netherland’s biggest annual run – the Dam tot Damloop - will be taking place and I will be among the registered thousands who will run 16.1km from Amsterdam to the nearby town of Zaandam (thus the event name). I have finished a full marathon before (42.1km) but what makes this run special for me is that I am running for a Dutch-founded charity this time around: the Stichting Anak Filippijnen (Anak Foundation Philippines).  Read More…

Doei Maastricht, Hoi Amsterdam

As of today, I’m officially registered as a resident of Amsterdam but I can’t just let this moment pass without giving Maastricht, which was my home for almost two years, a little tribute post, can I? Here’s a well-made video (commissioned by several organizations in Maastricht) that beautifully captures the images and spirit of the place…at least on a sunny day.

Taking Part in 3 Day Startup Maastricht

About two weeks ago, I received an email confirming that I had been selected to participate in the Netherland’s first ever 3 Day Startup (3DS) event to be held in Maastricht from May 6 to 8. 3DS is an entrepreneurship education program that brings together 40 passionate students (and in some instances, professionals) who, over the course of three days, are challenged to build a start-up technology company. 3DS provides the top-notch mentors, workspace, food and drinks required for the intensive weekend.

The goal is to build enough momentum and a network of motivated people to sustain the company beyond the weekend. Alumni of 3DS events have founded numerous startups and have collectively raised more than $2M in investment. – 3DS Maastricht Read More…

Exploring the Labyrinths of Maastricht

I first heard about the caves in Maastricht back in August, during my university’s alternative week-long orientation, the INKOM. Naturally, I wondered how a town (or country for that matter) with a relatively flat landscape, can have caves? A few weeks later, two of our professors took us there on a field trip, and it finally made sense.

Magisch Maastricht: Decentralized Christmas Market

Earlier this December, Maastricht introduced the new Christmas market concept called Magisch Maastricht (previously Winterland Maastricht). One major change this year is the decentralization of the market stalls and attractions. Instead of having one big market at the Vrijthof (the city’s plaza square), there are now several markets spread out across the city (Vrijthof, Maas Boulevard, Market Square and Onze Lieve Vrouweplein, to name a few), turning the entire town center into a holiday attraction in itself.
