Eight Irresistible Principles of Fun

I think I may have just found my life manifesto. Here’s an inspiring animation created by an organization aptly named Box of Crayons.

Eight Irresistible Principles of Fun

GET FOCUSED…
1. Stop hiding who you really are
2. Start being intensely selfish

BE CREATIVE…
3. Stop following the rules
4. Start scaring yourself

USE YOUR WISDOM…
5. Stop taking it all so damn seriously
6. Start getting rid of the crap

TAKE ACTION…
7. Stop being busy
8. Start something

As someone who treasures creativity, rules #3 and #4 hit close to home. We should avoid operating like drones and continuously challenge the rules, not to incite chaos, but to get rid of the often unnecessary roadblocks and detours. We must also remind ourselves to step out of our comfort zones and constantly do something frightening. After all, success is only possible when there is a risk of failure.

Imagine if we all lived like this. Like what I always tell myself when I am put in a difficult situation: choose the path that lets you live, instead of merely exist.

Very inspiring. I think I, too, should make myself aware of that more often. Usually I just slip into the ‘normal’, without even noticing. And I need to be reminded of what else is possible and how to do things differently. So thanks for reminding me Clarence! :)

Paula, having spent one whole academic year with you, I can say that your ‘normal’ is rather extraordinary, so keep it up. All the best with the new academic year and see you around for coffee! :)

Thank you Clarence, that is very nice of you. But I can only say the same for you. You have always been a cery inspiring classmate :)

I love it, Dan! You’re right, very inspiring. Simple ideas that build to a big, meaningful outcome. Have you ever read Leo Babauta’s The Power of Less? I strongly recommend it. It’s life changing!
